About bob marteal

I love it when websites work!

I have worked on higher-ed websites since 2002. I currently work for College of Arts and Sciences, Cornell University.

Fab! This is great work. Very handsome layout and usability. Slick feature spotlight on the front page. Great writing and supporting images too. The only thing i can thing of constructive, if i try really hard, is possibly adding a "Cover" button on the top nav space, to go along with the logo.

Nice IA. It's really easy to get to different basic things. The content usability is great. So i gave it a my style because i think finding stuff is the most important factor.

I have personal feelings about the orange, but that doesn't really matter. One observation about the front flash piece, when you click on a person, you have to slide off to click the more link, but if you decide you don't want to see more, getting the ribbon back is pretty awkward.

I like the usefullness of the big orange buttons, but i feel they kinda dominate the pages. I think tying the request info form into the site design would strengthen the overall feel as well.

I would deal with the south university online link differently. i had to read the page title on the browser to figure out what it was and how it was different than the other site.

This is really well done. Way to cut back on gimicky-doohickeys and just tell a story. Great news/marketing piece. The classy links for the targeted audience pages get people, to what they need in a really logical way. Nice design consistency throughout the top level page also. Great work.

Way to be focused. I could see this being a format for a series of how-tos.

I'm not really a twitter, but i've never seen something like this. Looks really cool, and is way beyond most custom twitter pages i've seen.

Awesome improvement!I'm still going with MY style, but with caveats. I love love the width, but i think that the one of the main benefits of the extra space... the space itself, has been filled up too much. The text is dense. I think the font-size is a little small and there is just too much of it. I think it's good copy. It seems to all be relevant, and the typography and headers are very consistent. You also did a great job of keeping the different level pages consistent. I also think it's a little much to have the top nav links spelled out and then have the same links in the left-nav. I rather like the audience pages without the expanded top nav. Perhaps a more mellow audience link bar? The skinnier, centered list, kinda creates a little bit of a bottle neck in the flow?
good work.

Outstanding! The attention to detail really shows, and make this a really strong design. The consistency over all the pages is welcoming, and the amount of content on each page is juuuuust right.

Nice restraint! Obviously this is a big multi-campus type university and you didn't try to stick all of that on the homepage, and that's a good move. All of the main nav pieces and pages are really consistent. I like the different sites for each campus as well. One thing, what is NMIT? I guess if i lived in AU i might know.

I said not my style, but i think it's a cool, bold design. I just don't think it's all the way there. On my 15 inch laptop some of the posts hang over the 'footer' space. It also took me a minute to figure out that those were posts. Personally, i think it would serve you well to add a date and title at the top of each post. Maybe some more defined navigation, and something more like a scrollable set up with fixed sizes so things don't get cut off in the vertical middle would help. Way to think outside of the vertical box though.

I think this is on the right track. But, it looks like maybe there were too may cooks in the kitchen. There are 56 links on the homepage in 5 main sections. It seems like stepping back and really trying to cut things back and package pages into a more strict hierarchy would really help. It will also make the interior pages easier to navigate.

I think this design is sharp and professional. However, it would be stronger with a bit less copy, in the sidebar, it's really too much to read on a homepage. The design itself can be tightened up substantially with some quick adjustments to paddings and alignments. Possible some more current pictures, that apple laptop is really out of date. Maybe make the back and forward buttons on your news scroller thing a bit more visible. Overall, really proper design for the assumed target audience.
