Very easy to use, navigate. Love the full-page background photos on each video page: high-quality images that actually relate and explain a little more about the story. Plus it relates directly back to the title. The flash didn't bother me at all; it's only on the home page. JS solution or not, it works, has a backup for accessibility and looks great. Nice work!
This could have been done without Flash. The transitions while hovering over the individual stories was jarring. Like that there's an alternative available.
The individual video pages are nice. They are clear, simple, and direct. Everything reinforces the story being told. I like it.
I am not bothered by the flash, but agree teh non-flash version is nice for accessiblity. However, I was disappointed the stories rely soley on the text and still images. Developing the story with video would have added another dimension and really elevated the site stickiness. A way to engage the web audience.
From a creative point of view I really like the concept "The Bigger Picture"and the overall layout. The use of videos to tell stories fits the concept perfectly. The use of "balanced" white space and the intuitive interface (thumbnails as links) make this site look slightly more refined than some of the others.
From a technical point of view I'm OK with the use of Flash as this site has a short life span (Annual reports are only good until the next fiscal year ), and an HTML version is provided. That said, the use of a JavaScript library like JQuery to build the site could have made it a bit "slicker."
There are some usability issues. The back button reads "back to videos." That confused me for an instant, I had to think about what that meant as the home page does not include videos, but links thereto. Why just simply label the home link, "back"?

Using flash is definitely not my thing, but I do appreciate the non-flash version.
That being said, I think you can recreate this design pretty easily with javascript (then you don't have to maintain 2 versions)

@ccbeachchica... Just curious: I'm not sure I understand what you mean about developing the story with video. Each of the stories is a video... ?
