Steve Krug is best known as the author of Don’t Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability, now in its second edition with over 200,000 copies in print.
In his 20 years as a usability consultant, he has evaluated and improved interfaces for a wide variety of clients like Apple, Lexus.com, Bloomberg.com, Magazines.com, Move.com, NPR, Kidzui, and the International Monetary Fund. He currently spends most of his time teaching usability workshops, consulting, and working on a new book about do-it-yourself usability testing. His consulting firm, Advanced Common Sense is based in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
Being the father of a high school senior has heightened his interest in the unique issues of higher ed Web design, which was first tweaked by invitations in recent years to speak at HighEdWebDev and conferences at the University of Illinois and Penn State. He recently got a hands-on taste of the territory in a project for Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
Amber is a new media journalist and consultant. Currently, she is the co-founder of web production house MGImedia.ca, New Media Specialist at Toronto TV station CP24, host of weekly video podcast commandN.tv, co-host with tech guru Leo Laporte of weekly audio podcast net@nite, and a regular contributor on CBC's Spark. She also works exclusively with The Lavin Agency as a keynote speaker on the subject of how to use Web 2.0 technologies to build community and customer loyalty.
Steve is a recognized authority on front-end development and interface design. He is an entrepreneur, founding Ordered List, and co-founding Sidebar Creative, both of which are outlets for his professional work. And as an author, public speaker, and University of Notre Dame professor, he is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others.
He lives in South Bend, Indiana with his wife and two children. In the rare times he's not working, he's either on the golf course, making home-brewed beer, or spending time with the family.
Nick is the Associate Director of Web Communications at Wayne State University. As host of the video blog, EDU Checkup, he reviews higher education websites from the point of view of a first time visitor, while critiquing the design, information architecture and code of the sites. He is a staff writer at .eduGuru, a higher education marketing and web development blog. He takes an active role in the higher education web community by sharing his thoughts and real world analysis in the Wayne State Web Communications Blog. He is also an officer for Refresh Detroit, a group of web professionals whose goal is to promote web standards, usability, and accessibility and to spread the knowledge of web design in the Detroit and Ann Arbor Michigan areas.
With a background in computer science, Nick has always been interested in user experience and accessibility. Part of his work at Wayne State includes reviewing and benchmarking other university web sites. His personal web philosophy is to keep things light, simple and agile, always striving for simple solutions to complex problems.
Michael currently works as Web Marketing Manager for Pittsburg State University. He is an author at .eduGuru.
Chas manages interactive marketing for AgencyND - a marketing agency within the University of Notre Dame. As web marketer, social media advocate, and former developer, he has seen the best and worst of what technology can do for higher education. His blog can be found at grundyhome.com.
Matt has more than ten years of Web experience with seven years in higher education. He started in the corporate world as a production assistant for a higher ed Web design agency where he produced sites for various universities and colleges. He then moved into higher education as a designer and strategist for various higher ed institutions.

Kyle is the founder of .eduGuru where he writes about his passions, Web Analytics and Social Media. He's currently working as an Inbound Marketing Consultant at HubSpot. Formerly he was the Webmaster at Wofford College a position that he held for two and a half years. Kyle graduated Wofford College in 2003 with a degree in Computer Science and worked at the campus for the next five and a half years in multple roles and departments. His professional background is more technical as he worked for three years in Wofford’s Information Technology Department in Help Desk Support and IT Specialist where he learned all the technical and troubleshooting aspects of a computer. His web experience stretches back to 1997 and the days of the early web and designing sites using Netscape Composer and Notepad.
Karine Joly is a Web marketing professional, a new media expert and the Web editor behind www.collegewebeditor.com. She is also the founder of www.higheredexperts.com, a social networking and professional development community with more than 1,500 registered members working in higher ed institutions around the world.
Karine shares insights and observations in her Internet Technologies column published every other month in University Business.
Part-time Web editor for a liberal arts college on the east coast from 2002 to 2008, Karine has chosen to work full-time on her writing, presentations as well as Higher Ed Experts. She is also a consultant on new media and Web projects for other universities, colleges and schools.
Before focusing on Web 2.0 in higher education, she experienced first hand Web 1.0 as a Web editor at About.com, a top 10 Web property that is now part of The New York Times Company. Prior to the dot com boom (... and bust), Karine worked as a journalist for several radio stations, newspapers, and magazines in Europe.
She has a master's degree in communication from La Sorbonne in Paris and a Webmaster Certificate from Rutgers University, NJ.
Dave Lowe has been creating web sites since 1997, and working in higher-ed since 2001. He currently works at Biola University as Associate Director of Integrated Marketing Communications, in Web Communications, and in his spare time develops web sites for Blue Rocket Studios, a web design company he co-founded in 2004.
Nikki currently works as Technology Training Coordinator with the Penn State University Libraries. She is an author at .eduGuru.
Karlyn Morissette is a thought leader and innovator in higher education. Throughout her career, Karlyn has pushed the envelope. She was one of the first full-time admissions e-communications managers in the country, pushed email marketing to new heights of segmentation before it was common practice and implemented/managed one of the earliest student blogging programs on the web. Today, as the President and Principal Consultant of DoJo Web Strategy, Karlyn helps universities to integrate goal-driven web strategies into their current marketing plans. She is an invited speaker at conferences around the country, and is one of the most prolific bloggers in higher education, publishing regularly at both www.karlynmorissette.com and www.doteduguru.com.
Rachel Reuben is the Director of Web Communication & Strategic Projects in the Office of Public Affairs at the State University of New York at New Paltz, where she has worked in various Web, public relations, and marketing capacities since 1998. She is a member of the .eduGuru blogging team at http://doteduguru.com, and is a regular speaker at conferences.
In August 2008 she published a research paper called “The Use of Social Media in Higher Education for Marketing and Communication: A Guide for Professionals in Higher Education,” which was cited during both keynote addresses at the Stamats conference in November, as well as a number of other conference sessions and blog posts throughout the country.
During her tenure at SUNY New Paltz Rachel has overseen four major redesigns of their main site (www.newpaltz.edu, expecting #5 this year), has implemented the OmniUpdate content management system, the e2campus mass notification system, and initiated several e-recruiting efforts for the college, including the use of social media.
Under her direction, the New Paltz Web site has been awarded the SUNY Council for University Advancement (SUNY CUAD) Award for Excellence Best of Category three times in the last eight years, in addition to several other awards.
Eric Stoller is an Academic Advisor & Web Coordinator for the College of Health & Human Sciences at Oregon State University. He served previously as a Marketing Specialist for Student Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Eric has over 10 years of web site creation experience. His technology competencies include accessibility/usability analysis, search engine optimization, blogging best practices, and web analytics. Eric frequently engages in consulting projects for higher education clients.
Eric is a student affairs techie who can translate technology jargon into meaningful Student Affairs action and policy. As an academic advisor, Eric is literally "plugged in" to how today's student interacts with various web technologies. Eric has given presentations on web-related technologies at multiple Student Affairs conferences (AACRAO, NACADA, and NASPA), is a former regional chair of the NASPA Technology Knowledge Community and was selected to be a faculty member for the NACADA Winter Technology Seminar. He holds a BA in Public Relations from the University of Northern Iowa and an Ed.M. in College Student Services Administration from Oregon State University.

Brad has been working in the Higher Education setting since college, starting as a student assistant in the Marketing Department at the University of Illinois at Springfield. After graduation, he served as the Marketing and Recruitment Specialist at UIS for 1 1/2 years.
Brad then went to Butler University, where he served as the Electronic Communication Coordinator in the Office of Admission for nearly 2 years. As one of the few higher education professionals whose work is focused in social media / social networking, web content, email, and data research, Brad has taken web-based recruitment and admissions to new levels. His work has been recognized and cited extensively throughout the higher ed community.
He is now the Chief Explosion Officer at BlueFuego, a company dedicated to helping Colleges and Universities utilize the web to achieve their marketing and recruitment goals.

Jeff is a Senior Writer for The Chronicle of Higher Education, where he coordinates the publication's Wired Campus Blog and writes a column about how technology is changing higher education. His articles and video reports have appeared in a variety of national publications. He was named a Science Journalism Laureate by Purdue University in 2006, and one of his articles was selected for the book, The Best of Technology Writing 2007.
Andy has been interested in design and multimedia for several years. He started working on eduStyle in 2008 and is currently co-authoring "The eduStyle Guide to Usable Higher Ed Homepage Design."
Cody has worked in higher-ed since 2005. He worked for the University of Lethbridge from 2005 through 2008. In 2008 he left to do freelance work and he recently joined a smallish advertising agency. He started working on eduStyle in 2008 and is currently co-authoring "The eduStyle Guide to Usable Higher Ed Homepage Design."
Stewart has spent the last 6 years working in higher-ed. He started as a junior web assistant and worked his way to managing the websites for first Athabasca University then Grant MacEwan College. In 2007 he founded eduStyle to try to raise awareness of best practices in higher ed web design. Since then he has spent his days watching the latest trends in higher ed web design. He's been working to spread awareness of best practices and draw attention to high quality web design in higher ed. He's a speaker on higher-ed design trends and improving design in higher-ed web design. He is currently co-writing "The eduStyle Guide to Higher-Ed Homepage Design."
